One of the largest risk factors surrounding alcohol is that it’s so common.
Practically everyone drinks alcohol – in all kinds of situations. This has led to 1.5 mil problem drinkers in the Netherlands, 2500 of which die every year as a direct consequence of alcohol over-consumption. Only a small percentage of these addicts are obvious down-and-out alcoholics. The rest look as though they don’t have a problem, even though they are suffering on the inside.
