Eating disorders

When the craving doesn't go away
We are all familiar with the irresistible craving for a nice chunk of chocolate or a handful of salty crisps. We eat a bit, satisfy our craving and go on with what we were doing.

What is emotional eating?

Emotional overeaters experience an uncontrollable urge to eat huge amounts at specific moments during the day. Just before such a moment, they feel very tense and are obsessively preoccupied with food.

When you just want more even if you are physically satisfied.

It’s not that easy if you suffer from an eating disorder. You just want more, even if the physical satisfaction is fulfilled. You’ve got to keep on eating no matter what and sometimes you don’t even know why.

The satisfaction is very temporary.

After overeating, the tension disappears and you feel satisfied - for a while. Then comes the guilt and shame and the conviction that you will never stuff yourself like that again. When emotional overeating has slipped into the realm of bulimia, feelings of guilt and shame must be compensated by excessive sports, laxation or vomiting.
In all cases, eating is being used as a distraction from underlying psychological issues that need to be addressed.

Are you ready to stop the craving and start living?
